Mary V. Wheelhouse

Mary V. Wheelhouse (1895 - 1947) was born in Yorkshire and studied at the Académie Delecture in Paris. As a painter and illustrator of children's books, she produced charming colour plates for the gift books of the early twentieth century. After winning a Bookman competition for The Adventures of Merrywink, written by her friend Christina Wyte, she was commissioned by Bell, which proved to be a long collabration. She later moved to Cambridge where she ran a small shop.

Books illustrated: The Adventures of Merrywink, Easter Eggs, Holy House and Ridges Row, Flat Iron for a Farthing, Six to Sixteen, Maîtres Sonneurs, Little Women.
